FUSING EDUCATION
+ INSPIRATION

To educate thousands of sales associates each season, Pottery Barn sends every store a publication called the Sneak Preview that introduces new products and business initiatives. After inheriting this project—which was previously a stapled, Xeroxed, black and white memo—I quickly developed it into a full-color, press-printed, saddle-stitched, mini-catalog while reducing cost by 41%.

My manager confirmed that “the Sneak Preview went from about $11,000 to about $6,500—a significant savings. Also, I’m more than happy to say that you’ve done a superb job with the design and layout of the Sneak Preview since you took over...your quick work, beautiful designs and eye for detail have really taken this product to the next level—it’s really exceptional work.”

BALANCING VISIBILITY + READABILITY, WEEKLY

Bouncing from Mad Men to a Wonder[ous] Woman, I quickly designed these layouts for InTouch Magazine while freelancing for Bauer Publishing. Maintaining an energetic aesthetic while balancing type and image were a welcome challenge at this weekly publication.

SETTING VISUAL +
VERBAL CONTENT

Designed for a scholarly audience, this journal juxtaposes content that simultaneously connects and contrasts (see full spread below); for example, a critique of working conditions in iron mills and an argument that religion is a form of technology run side by side. For this comparison, imagery of an illuminated tapestry is employed to represent both the spiritual and technical—the floral design was manufactured on machinery reading punch cards, the forerunners to binary computing.

CREATING IDENTITY + REPRESENTING SPACE

A promotional brochure for UNSW’s College of Fine Arts indexes their unique campus to suggest what is possible there without blatantly depicting the space or creating a definitive experience for perspective students [so that they can form their own upon arrival].

DEFINING PROBLEMS
+ FINDING SOLUTIONS

After researching garment care labels, user behavior (below right), and industry regulations, I composed this report for the Federal Trade Commission illustrating the shortcomings of the care labeling system and suggested appropriate solutions.

DESIGNING WITH EMPATHY + FORESIGHT

Parents receive this guide book directly from their doctor at the time their child is diagnosed with cancer. The guide's design considers reading conditions in hospitals, includes easily xeroxed forms for record keeping, and features artwork from local patients.

right, middle: a flexible yet consistent design of information keeps addresses and numbers readable
